Association of Chess Professionals

The Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) is a not-for-profit organisation, the closest thing in existence to a trade union for professional chess players. According to Article 2 of its terms:The association's purpose is the protection of professional chess players' rights, the practice and promotion of chess worldwide, in particular through the organisation of chess tournaments and other chess events.

L’Association of Chess Professionals ou ACP est une association de joueurs d’échecs professionnels qui s’apparente à un syndicat des joueurs. Elle a été fondée à Paris en septembre 2003 par Joël Lautier, Vladimir Kramnik, Almira Skripchenko, Pavel Tregubov et Yannick Pelletier, suite au mouvement de mécontentement général au championnat d’Europe d’échecs en Turquie la même année, où les joueurs étaient obligés de réserver des chambres d’hôtels à des prix anormalement élevés.

Die Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) ist eine seit 2003 existierende Vereinigung professioneller Schachspieler mit Büro in Sankt Petersburg. Die Statuten der ACP nennen als ersten Zweck der Vereinigung die „Wahrung der Rechte professioneller Schachspieler“, womit diese Vereinigung also als erste Schachprofi-Gewerkschaft der Geschichte angesehen werden darf.Amtierender Präsident der ACP ist der russische Schachgroßmeister Pawel Tregubow, sein Vorgänger war der Franzose Joel Lautier. Die ACP weist 382 Mitglieder aus, davon 67 Frauen (Stand: Januar 2007). Gemäß den Statuten wird jeder weibliche und männliche Großmeister und Internationale Meister, sowie jede sonstwie mit dem professionellen Schach verbundene Person (Schachtrainer, Turnierorganisator, Journalist o. ä. – dies muss allerdings vom ACP-Vorstand beraten und entschieden werden) aufgenommen.

Stowarzyszenie Szachowych Zawodowców (ang. Association of Chess Professionals - ACP) – stowarzyszenie powstałe w drugiej połowie 2003 roku na bazie narastającego niezadowolenia wśród silnych szachistów, głównie arcymistrzów, z funkcjonowania międzynarodowych organizacji szachowych FIDE oraz ECU. Momentem przełomowym, który zadecydował o powstaniu ACP, były wydarzenia podczas Indywidualnych Mistrzostw Europy w Silivri w roku 2003. Warunkiem dopuszczenia do mistrzostw było zamieszkanie w tzw. oficjalnym hotelu, w którym ustalona za pobyt cena była bardzo wysoka w porównaniu z cenami w okolicznych hotelach. Dodatkowo, szachiści za pobyt musieli płacić więcej niż pozostałe osoby (zwykli turyści) zamieszkujący w tym samym w czasie w tym samym hotelu.
