Associated Press

The Associated Press, or AP, is an American news agency, and is the world's largest such organization. The AP is a cooperative owned by its contributing newspapers, radio and television stations in the United States, who both contribute stories to it and use material written by its staffers. Many newspapers and broadcasters outside the United States are AP subscribers — that is, they pay a fee to use AP material but are not members of the cooperative.

Associated Press (AP) ist eine Nachrichtenagentur mit Hauptsitz in New York City, die im Mai 1848 (als 'Harbour News Association') gegründet wurde. Durch das Zusammenführen aus mehreren regionalen Presseagenturen 1892 baute sie ihren Informationsvorsprung entscheidend aus. Der erste Deutschland-Korrespondent nahm 1898 seine Arbeit auf. 1900 zog AP nach New York. Von der Satzung her ist die Agentur ein genossenschaftliches Unternehmen mit weit über 1.000 Mitgliedern. Die Zahl der Kunden wird auf rund 12.000 weltweit beziffert.

Associated Press - amerykańska agencja prasowa. 3500 pracowników w 240 biurach zaopatruje w wiadomości około 6000 stacji radiowych i telewizyjnych oraz 1700 gazet w USA. Poza USA ma około 8500 klientów. Serwisy Associated Press dostarczają dziennie ok. 10.000 wiadomości (łącznie ok. 20 milionów wyrazów i 1000 zdjęć). Wiadomości są tłumaczone na 5 języków obcych: hiszpański, niemiecki, francuski, holenderski i szwedzki.
