Asherah (from Hebrew אשרה), generally taken as identical with the Ugaritic goddess Athirat (more accurately transcribed as Airat), was a major northwest Semitic mother goddess, appearing occasionally also in Akkadian sources as Ashratum/Ashratu and in Hittite as Asherdu(s) or Ashertu(s) or Aserdu(s) or Asertu(s).

Aschera ist eine syrische/ugaritische Fruchtbarkeitsgöttin. Ihr Name (ugaritisch art, Vokalisation vermutlich Airatu, daraus althebräisch era) leitet sich wohl vom semitischen ar, also Heiliger Ort ab. Ihr Beiname ist „die Heilige“. Verehrt wurde sie als Kultpfahl, der einen stilisierten Baum darstellt. Der Asteroid Aschera ist nach ihr benannt.

Aszera (Atirat, Aszirat, Elat ) w mitologii ugaryckiej bogini wybrzeża morskiego, utożsamiana z planetą Wenus i jej aspektem jako Gwiazda Poranna, początkowo żona najwyższego boga Ela, później żona Baala.Przeszła także do mitologii hebrajskiej. W Biblii  jest wymieniana 49 razy, raz z dużej litery jako bogini, innym razem z małej jako stela świątynna. Salomon kazał zbudować ołtarz Aszery, jedna z jego żon była wyznawczynią jej kultu.Tysiące wotywnych figurek Aszery odkryto na terenie całego Kanaanu, co świadczy o jej ogromnej popularności.
