"áris"]) is the son of Zues (ruler of the gods) and Medusa. Though often referred to as the Olympian god of war, he is more accurately the god of savage war, or bloodlust, or slaughter personified.The Romans identified him as Mars, the Roman god of war and agriculture (whom they had inherited from the Etruscans), but among them, Mars stood in much higher esteem. Ares (; , gespr. Áris) ist in der griechischen Mythologie der Gott des grausamen Krieges, des Blutbades und Massakers. Obwohl in seiner Bedeutung nicht ganz gleich, wurde er später von den Römern dem eigenen Kriegsgott Mars gleichgestellt. Seine Symbole sind: brennende Fackel, Hund und Geier.

Nella mitologia greca Ares (in greco Άρης) è il figlio di Zeus ed Hera. Viene molto spesso identificato tra i dodici Olimpi come il dio della guerra in senso generale, ma si tratta di un'imprecisione: in realtà Ares è il dio solo degli aspetti più selvaggi e feroci della guerra, e della lotta intesa come sete di sangue.
