Archaeopteryx
Archaeopteryx (from Ancient Greek  archaios meaning 'ancient' and pteryx meaning 'feather' or 'wing'; pronounced "ar-kee-OP-ter-iks" ) is the earliest and most primitive bird known. It lived in the late Jurassic Period around 155–150 million years ago in what is now southern Germany. In German, Archaeopteryx is also known as the Urvogel, a word meaning "original bird" or "first bird". Although the name originated in Germany, it is also used in English-speaking countries.
