Arcas

In Pelasgian mythology, Arcas is the son of the god Zeus (the god of thunder and the lord over all gods) and Callisto (The goddess of the Great Bear, also known as Ursa Major).Callisto was a deity of the goddess Artemis. Zeus, being the flirtatious and insatiable god that he is, decided that he wanted her. As she would not be with anyone but Artemis, Zeus cunningly disguised himself as the goddess and seduced her. The child resulting from their union was called Arcas.Hera (Zeus' wife), became jealous, and in anger, transformed Callisto into a bear. She would have done the same or worse to her son, had Zeus not hid Arcas in an area of Greece that would come to be called Arcadia, in his honor. There Arcas safely lived until one day, during one of the court feasts held by King Lycaon, Arcas was cut by him into pieces as a sacrifice to the gods.

Dans la mythologie grecque, Arcas est le fils de Zeus et de Callisto, et le roi éponyme de la province d'Arcadie. Son nom, en lien avec son histoire, semble lié au grec ancien arktos : "ours".

Arkas oder Arcas (᾿Αρκάς) war in der griechischen Mythologie der Sohn von Zeus und der Nymphe Kallisto, die von Hera in einen Bären verwandelt wurde. Zeus übergab Arkas seinem Großvater Lykaon zur weiteren Aufzucht.Lykaon tötete Arkas und setzte sein Fleisch dem bei ihm einkehrenden Zeus vor. Dieser setzte das Haus des Lykaon mit seinem Blitz in Brand und verwandelte ihn in einem Wolf. Zeus war so verärgert über die Täuschung, dass er hernach das gesamte Menschengeschlecht mittels der Deukalischen Flut hinwegschwemmen ließ. Zeus erweckte Arkas wieder zum Leben und gab ihn einem Hirten zur weiteren Aufzucht.

Nella mitologia greca Arcade (in greco Αρκάς), era il figlio di Zeus e della Ninfa Callisto, che Hera trasformò in un orso. Arcade, durante una battuta di caccia, senza volerlo, corse il pericolo di uccidere la sua stessa madre, non avendola riconosciuta sotto le nuove sembianze animalesche. Zeus decise quindi di porli entrambi in cielo mutando Callisto nell'Orsa maggiore e Arcade nell'Orsa minore. È chiamato anche Arctophylax (protettore o pastore di orsi ).
