El árabe o arabía es una lengua semítica, como el arameo, el hebreo, el acadio, el maltés  y otras lenguas similares. Es única lengua oficial en veinte países, y cooficial en al menos otros seis, así como también es una de las 6 lenguas oficiales de la Naciones Unidas. Es también la lengua litúrgica del Islam.
