Arab Monetary Fund
The AMF, originally aimed at correcting chronic deficits in the balance of
payments in most member states, promotes Arab integration in monetary and
economic affairs. The Fund's priorities have included: (a) addressing
payments imbalances, (b) creating capital markets, (c) stabilizing exchange
rates, and (d) eliminating payments and trade restrictions. Members
include: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya,
Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria,
Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and the Palestine Liberation
Organization. The Fund was created in 1976 (began operating in April
1977); headquarters are in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
