Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development
The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, or AFESD, is a
Kuwait based, pan-Arab development finance institute. All members of the
League of Arab States are members of the fund. As of
2003, it held around U.S. $7.3 billion in assets.AFESD was established by agreement of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States. Its first meeting was held on
February 6,
1972.The current Chairman is Abdulatif Y Al-Hamad.

Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development
AFESD promotes regional economic integration and social development in Arab
states. Members include: Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan,
Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and the
Palestine Liberation Organization. The Fund, associated with the League of
Arab States, started operations in February 1972; headquarters are in
Safat, Kuwait.
