Aqabah

Aqaba (, Al-ʻAqabah) is a coastal town with a population of 70,000 (2000 est. pop.) and 2% of Jordan's population in the far south of Jordan. It is the capital of Aqaba Governorate. Aqaba is strategically important to Jordan as it is the country's only seaport. The town borders Eilat, Israel and there is a border post where it is possible to cross between the two countries (see Wadi Araba Crossing). Both Aqaba and Eilat are at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Aqaba oder Akaba (, al-cAqaba, lokale Aussprache el-cAgabe, für steiler Abhang) ist eine Stadt in Jordanien mit 80.059 Einwohnern (Volkszählung 2004). Sie ist ein Seehafen am Golf von Akaba (auch Golf von Elat), einem Seitenarm des Roten Meeres. Aqaba ist der einzige Seehafen Jordaniens. Haupteinnahmequellen sind der Tourismus und der Export von Phosphatdünger. Aqaba ist auch der einzige jordanische Tauchort am Roten Meer. Bereits unter König Hussein I. wurde in den 90er Jahren ein Teil der Korallenriffe unter Naturschutz gestellt und weitere künstliche Riffe geschaffen. Trotzdem sind die Korallenriffe weiter in Gefahr. Aqaba ist eine Freihandelszone und besitzt einen Flughafen.

Akaba (arab. العقبة, al-ʿAqabah; hebr. עקבה) - miasto w południowo-zachodniej Jordanii, w muhafazie Maan, nad Zatoką Akaba (Morze Czerwone), będące jedynym portem morskim kraju. Miasto ma port rybacki, lotnisko, połączenie drogowe i kolejowe z Ammanem oraz drogowe z Medyną (Arabia Saudyjska). Przez port wywozi się fosforyty, jest strefa wolnocłowa, przemysł chemiczny to gł. produkcja nawozów fosforowych. Znajduje się tutaj ośrodek sportów wodnych oraz akwarium morskie. Usytuowane jest na przecięciu dwóch kontynentów: Azji i Afryki.

Aqaba (in arabo العقبة; al 'akaba) è il porto principale della Giordania. È situata nel sud della Giordania sul Mar Rosso e ha una popolazione stimata di 80.000 persone. E' adiacente al porto israeliano di Eilat.È nota per essere la città conquistata da Lawrence d'Arabia durante la I guerra mondiale.

Akaba of Aqaba (Arabisch: العقبة al-‘Aqabah) is een stad in Zuidwest-Jordanië, de enige havenstad aan zee, die grenst aan het Israëlische Eilat. Akaba en Eilat bevinden zich aan het uiterste noorden van de Golf van Akaba. Bevolking: 62.773 (1994) ← 41.900 (1989) Er worden fosfaten en enkele soorten zeeschelpen uit deze stad geëxporteerd, en het is een favoriete plaats voor mensen die de duiksport beoefenen.
