Apple Workgroup Server (AWS or sometimes WGS) and, later, Macintosh Server, were the names given to selected models of Macintosh computers which were sold by Apple Computer with additional server software and sometimes bigger hard drives. Apart from that, they were mostly identical to computers out of Apple's workstation range. The "Workgroup Server" name was used on the models based on Centris, Quadra and early Power Macintosh series, while the servers based on the Power Macintosh G3 and Power Mac G4 were called "Macintosh Server G3" and "Macintosh Server G4". The first model was the Workgroup Server 95, introduced in March 1993; the last of the series was quietly discontinued in January 2003, after the introduction of the Xserve made them obsolete.

Les Workgroup Server sont une série de Macintosh destinés aux professionnels, commercialisés entre mars 1993 et mars 1998. I Workgroup Server erano una famiglia di server prodotta da Apple e basata sui computer Macintosh. Pur essendo presentati da Apple come dei server in realtà non erano altro che una versione rimaneggiata dei computer di fascia alta messi in un case differente e con un nome differente. Erano tutti basati su schede madri di computer della serie Quadra, Power Macintosh e in un caso anche Centris. Gli unici sistemi che si potevano realmente chiamare server erano i Network Server 500/700 che erano stati esplicitamente progettati per lavorare in rete e erano dotati di AIX 4.1.4, una versione di UNIX prodotto da IBM, purtroppo ebbero scarso successo. I sistemi Workgroup Server erano venduti con Mac OS e una serie di strumenti software sviluppati per l'amministrazione dei servizi offerti. Il primo esponente della famiglia venne presentato nel 1993 mentre l'ultimo venne annunciato nel 1997. La serie venne sostituita dalla famiglia Xserve
