Apache Software Foundation

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) is a non-profit corporation (classified as 501(c)(3) in the United States) to support Apache software projects, including the Apache HTTP Server. The ASF was formed from the Apache Group and incorporated in Delaware, USA, in June 1999.The Apache Software Foundation is a decentralized community of developers. The software they produce is distributed under the terms of the Apache License and is therefore free software / open source software. The Apache projects are characterized by a collaborative, consensus based development process and an open and pragmatic software license. Each project is managed by a self-selected team of technical experts who are active contributors to the project. The ASF is a meritocracy, implying that membership to the foundation is granted only to volunteers who have actively contributed to Apache projects.

Die ASF entstand im Juni 1999 aus der Apache Group und wurde in Delaware (USA) gegründet.Die Apache Software Foundation ist eine verteilte Gemeinschaft, die aus Entwicklern besteht, welche an Open-Source-Softwareprojekten arbeiten. Charakteristisch für Apache-Projekte ist der gemeinschaftliche und diskussionsfreudige Entwicklungsprozess und die offene und pragmatische Software-Lizenz. Jedes Projekt wird von einem gewählten Team aus Experten geleitet. Diese beteiligen sich auch aktiv an der Entwicklung der Projekte. Die ASF ist eine Meritokratie, deren Mitgliedschaft nur aktiven Entwicklern und Kontributoren der Apache-Projekte zuteil wird.

Fundacja została stworzona w Stanach Zjednoczonych w czerwcu 1999 wyodrębniając się z grupy Apache i włączając do korporacji Delaware.Apache Software Foundation jest zdecentralizowaną społecznością programistów pracującą nad projektami otwartymi. Zarządzanie fundacją jest nadzorowane przez grupę osób wybieranych przez członków ASF (ang. ASF members). Grupa zarządzająca wybiera osobę, reprezentanta, która wspiera merytorycznie (głównie pod kątem spraw związanych z regulacjami prawnymi) rozwój społeczności zgodnie z zasadami zwanymi Apache Way.

L'ASF fu costituita nel giugno 1999.L'Apache Software Foundation è una comunità distribuita di sviluppatori che lavorano su progetti software open source. Questi progetti sono caratterizzati da un processo di sviluppo distribuito, collaborativo e basato sul consenso molto simile al progetto wikipedia. Ciascun progetto è gestito da un team di volontari che sono i contributori attivi al progetto. L'ASF è, inoltre, meritocratica, perché l'appartenenza alla comunità è concessa solo a chi partecipa attivamente ai progetti.
