Anycast

Anycast is a network addressing and routing scheme whereby data is routed to the "nearest" or "best" destination as viewed by the routing topology.The term is intended to echo the terms unicast, broadcast and multicast.In unicast, there is a one-to-one association between network address and network endpoint: each destination address uniquely identifies a single receiver endpoint.In broadcast and multicast, there is a one-to-many association between network addresses and network endpoints: each destination address identifies a set of receiver endpoints, to which all information is replicated.In anycast, there is also a one-to-many association between network addresses and network endpoints: each destination address identifies a set of receiver endpoints, but only one of them is chosen at any given time to receive information from any given sender.

Anycast - to rodzaj transmisji sieciowej, w której dane wysyłane są do najbliższego lub najlepszego węzła. Komunikacja następuje od jednego nadawcy do (potencjalnie) do wielu odbiorców, przy czym jednocześnie dane są odbierane przez jednego z nich. Najlepiej do tego rodzaju transmisji nadają się protokoły bezpołączeniowe (np. UDP).Anycast może być wykorzystywany m.in. do implementowania serwerów DNS, jak również do przeprowadzania ataków DoS

In Internet, un indirizzo di tipo anycast è un indirizzo IP che può corrispondere a più di un host sulla rete. Quando un pacchetto viene inviato ad un indirizzo anycast, la rete lo consegnerà ad uno qualsiasi tra quelli associati all'indirizzo, tipicamente al più "vicino".Questa tecnica viene utilizzata per distribuire il carico ed aumentare l'affidabilità di servizi essenziali per il funzionamento della rete, come il DNS.
