Antillas

The Antilles (the same in French; Antillas in Spanish; Antillen in Dutch) refers to the islands forming the greater part of the West Indies in the Caribbean Sea. The Antilles are divided into two major groups: the "Greater Antilles" to the north including the larger islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and Puerto Rico; and the smaller "Lesser Antilles" on the southeast — comprising the northerly Leeward Islands, the southeasterly Windward Islands, and the Leeward Antilles just north of Venezuela. The Bahamas, though part of the West Indies, are generally not included among the Antillean islands.

Die Westindischen Inseln, auch Karibische Inseln genannt, ist ein Inselbogen in der Karibik. Er wird unterteilt in die Bahamas (obwohl die Bahamas geographisch im Atlantik liegen, werden sie noch zur Karibik gezählt), die Großen Antillen (Kuba, Jamaika, Hispaniola und Puerto Rico) und die Kleinen Antillen, wobei die Kleinen Antillen nochmals in die Inseln über dem Winde (Jungferninseln bis Grenada) und die Inseln unter dem Winde unterschieden werden (Isla Margarita bis nach Aruba).

Antyle (hisz. Antillas, ang. i franc. Antilles, niderl. Antillen) – grupa wysp położona w basenie Morza Karaibskiego, rozciągająca się łukowato na długości 4,5 tys. km od Cieśniny Jukatańskiej aż do wybrzeży Wenezueli. Większość wysp górzysta, klimat wilgotny, równikowy i podrównikowy. Plantacje trzciny cukrowej, kakao, kawy, bawełny.
