Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty

The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABM Treaty or ABMT) was a treaty between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the limitation of the anti-ballistic missile (ABM) systems used in defending areas against missile-delivered nuclear weapons. On May 26 1972, the President of the United States, Richard Nixon and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. The treaty was in force for thirty years, from 1972 until 2002. On June 13 2002, six months after giving the required notice of intent, the US withdrew from the treaty.

Le traité ABM (ABM pour anti-missiles balistiques) fut signé à Moscou le 26 mai 1972 dans le cadre des négociations sur la limitation des armes stratégiques et complété par le protocole du 3 juillet 1974 entre l'URSS et les États-Unis, puis confirmé par la Russie et les États de l’ex-URSS pour une durée illimitée. Après l'annonce du retrait officiel des États-Unis (rendu public le 13 décembre 2001), les États-Unis ne font plus parties du traité ABM depuis le 13 juin 2002

Der ABM-Vertrag aus dem Jahr 1972 war ein Vertrag zwischen den USA und der UdSSR zur Begrenzung von Raketenabwehrsystemen (Anti-Ballistic Missiles, ABM). Er war Ergebnis der SALT-Verhandlungen. Am 13. Juni 2002 traten die USA einseitig vom Vertrag zurück, nachdem sie, wie vertraglich festgelegt, 6 Monate zuvor eine Absichtserklärung abgegeben hatten, in der sie den Rücktritt dem Vertragspartner ankündigten.

Il Trattato Anti Missili Balistici - conosciuto anche come Trattato ABM (in inglese ABM Treaty) venne firmato da USA ed URSS il 26 maggio 1972 ed entrò in vigore il 3 ottobre dello stesso anno.Il suo scopo era limitare le possibilità di difesa antimissile delle due parti, in modo da frenare la proliferazione delle  armi nucleari offensive. In questo senso, il Trattato fa parte della strategia delle relazioni sovieto-americane durante la guerra fredda che prevedeva una parità strategica basata sulla dottrina della  mutua distruzione assicurata.

Договор об ограничении систем противоракетной обороны (ПРО).Подписан 26 мая 1972 года США и СССР. Срок действия договора не ограничивался.Договор зафиксировал обязательство сторон отказаться от создания, испытания и развертывания систем или компонент ПРО морского, воздушного, космического или мобильно-наземного базирования для борьбы со стратегическими баллистическими ракетами, а также не создавать системы ПРО территории страны.
