Anteros
For the 3rd century pope, see Pope Anterus. For the genus of metalmark butterflies, see Anteros (butterfly). In Greek mythology, Anteros (Αντερως / Anterôs) is the god of unrequited love, literally "love returned," as in, 'I don't want it, take it back,' and also the punisher of those who scorn love and the advances of others, or the avenger of unrequited love.

Anteros
[Greek] In Greek myth, Anteros ("return- or opposite-love") is sometimes the brother of Eros, the god of love. The latter languished of loneliness until Aphrodite gave Anteros to him as a playmate: love must be answered if it is to prosper. Anteros is also the god who punishes those who scorn love or do not return love of others.
