Android

An android is a robot designed to resemble a human, usually both in appearance and behavior. The word derives from the Greek andr-, " meaning "man, male", and the suffix -eides, used to mean "of the species; alike" (from eidos "species"). The term was first mentioned by Albertus Magnus in 1270 and was popularized by the French writer Villiers in his 1886 novel L'Ève future, although the term "android" appears in US patents as early as 1863 in reference to miniature humanlike toy automations.

Android est un système d'exploitation Open Source pour smartphones, PDA et terminaux mobiles conçu par Android, une start-up rachetée par Google, et annoncé officiellement le . Afin de promouvoir ce système d'exploitation ouvert, Google a su fédérer autour de lui une trentaine de partenaires réunis au sein de l'Open Handset Alliance. Ils auront comme principaux concurrents Apple avec OS X Mobile qui équipe l' iPhone, Palm avec Palm OS, Microsoft et son Windows Mobile, Nokia avec Symbian, libéré en 2008, et bien sûr OpenMoko, le projet dont les spécifications logicielles et matérielles sont ouvertes.

Android (von gr. ανδρος (Gen.) = Mann – griechisch: menschenförmig) ist die Bezeichnung für einen Roboter, der einem Menschen täuschend ähnlich sieht und sich menschenähnlich verhält. Ein Android ist somit ein spezieller humanoider Roboter. Der Begriff der Androiden wurde zunächst in der Futurologie und durch die Science-Fiction-Literatur geprägt. Ein humanoider Roboter in Form einer Frau (gr.: γυνη - gynä; Gen.: gynaikos) wird gelegentlich auch Gynoid genannt.

Android è una piattaforma open source per telefoni cellulari, basata sul sistema operativo Linux e sviluppata dall'Open Handset Alliance. La piattaforma è basata sul sistema operativo derivato da Linux con una serie di librerie dedicate come il database SQLite o SGL e OpenGL dedicate alla grafica, un "application framework", la "Dalvik virtual machine" (una Java virtual machine modificata) come ambiente di runtime e una serie di applicazioni preinstallate come un browser, una rubrica o un calendario.

L'androide è un essere artificiale, un robot, con sembianze umane (il termine deriva dal greco anèr, andròs, "uomo", e quindi può essere tradotto "a forma d'uomo") presente soprattutto nell'immaginario fantascientifico. In taluni casi l'androide può risultare indistinguibile dall'essere umano. Differisce dal cyborg, il quale è costituito da parti biologiche oltre che artificiali.
