Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh (, ) or AP, the "Rice Bowl of India", is a state in southern India. It lies between 12°41' and 22°N latitude and 77° and 84°40'E longitude, and is bordered by Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Orissa in the north, the Bay of Bengal in the East, Tamil Nadu to the south and Karnataka to the west. Andhra Pradesh is the 4th largest state in India by area and population. It is the largest and most populous state in South India. The state is crossed by two major rivers, the Godavari and the Krishna.

Andhra Pradesh (telugu ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్, āndhra pradeś, []) ist ein indischer Bundesstaat mit einer Fläche von 275.045 km² und 79.733.367 Einwohnern (Berechnung; Stand: 1. Januar 2006). Hauptstadt ist Hyderabad.Der Name des Bundesstaates bedeutet im Sanskrit „Land der Andhra“, eines schon in vorchristlicher Zeit bekannten Volkes. Die ursprünglich ethnische Bezeichnung übertrug sich noch im Altertum auf Teile des heutiges Staates Andhra Pradesh, der 1956 entlang der Sprachgrenzen des Telugu, der Muttersprache des größten Teils der Bevölkerung, entstand.

Jego wschodnią granicę stanowi Zatoka Bengalska.
