Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India. Informally, the territory's name is often abbreviated to A & N Islands, or ANI. It is located in the Indian Ocean, in the southern reaches of the Bay of Bengal. It comprises two island groups - the Andaman Islands and the Nicobar Islands - which separate the Andaman Sea to the east from the Indian Ocean. These two groups are separated by the 10° N parallel, the Andamans lying to the north of this latitude, and the Nicobars to the south. The capital of this territory is the Andamanese town of Port Blair.

Die Andamanen und Nikobaren (Hindi: अंडमान और नोकोबार द्वीप समूह, englisch: Andaman and Nicobar Islands) sind ein indisches Unionsterritorium, 1.255 km südöstlich von Kolkata und 1.190 km östlich von Chennai. Sie erstrecken sich von 6°45' bis 13°41' Nord, ungefähr entlang des 93. östlichen Längengrades westlich der thailändischen Küste und nordwestlich von Sumatra. Der 10. Breitengrad mit dem Ten Degree Channel trennt die nördlichen Andamanen von den Nikobaren. In seiner Hauptstadt Port Blair lebt etwa ein Drittel der etwa 356.265 Einwohner (Stand 2001).

Andamany i Nikobary (hindi अंडमान और निकोबार द्वीप, trb.: Andaman aur Nikobar Dwip, trl.: Aṁdamān aur Nikobār Dvīp; ang. Andaman and Nicobar Islands) - jedno z terytoriów związkowych Indii, położone po wschodniej stronie Zatoki Bengalskiej. Stolicą terytorium, a zarazem największym miastem jest Port Blair. Terytorium zostało utworzone 1 listopada 1956 roku. Jego powierzchnia to 8249 km², a zamieszkane jest przez około 0,4 mln osób. W skład terytorium wchodzą dwa archipelagi: Andamany i Nikobary.

De Andamanen en Nicobaren (Tamil: அந்தமான் நிகோபார் தீவுகள், Hindi: अंडमान और निकोबार द्वीप, Malayalam: ആന്തമാന്‍ നിക്കോബാര്‍ ദ്വീപുകള്‍, Telugu: అండమాన్ నికోబార్ దీవులు, Engels: Andaman and Nicobar Islands) vormen één van de zes unieterritoria van India (zie Staten en territoria van India).
