Ancestor worship

Ancestor Worship, also known as Ancestor Veneration or Ancestorism, is a religious practice based on the belief that deceased family members have a continued existence, take an interest in the affairs of the world, and possess the ability to influence the fortune of the living. All cultures attach ritual significance to the passing of loved ones, but this is not equivalent to ancestor worship. The goal of ancestor worship is to ensure the ancestors' continued well-being and positive disposition towards the living and sometimes to ask for special favours or assistance. The social or non-religious function of ancestor worship is to cultivate kinship values like filial piety, family loyalty, and continuity of the family lineage. While far from universal, ancestor worship or ancestor veneration occurs in societies with every degree of social, political, and technological complexity, and it remains an important component of various religious practices in modern times.

Le culte des ancêtres est une pratique commune à toutes les religions sans implication de dieux. Abandonné sous sa forme primitive dans de nombreux endroits, ce type de culte subsiste à Madagascar, au Viêt Nam, en Corée du Sud, au Mexique, ou en Europe à travers un syncrétisme avec le christianisme. Les religions orientales ont intégré depuis l'origine le culte des ancêtres. L'islam, lui ne le reconnaît pas, même si plusieurs régions du Maghreb notamment en pratiquent une certaine forme.

Ahnenkult, auch Ahnenverehrung genannt, ist ein ritueller Kult, bei dem tote Vorfahren verehrt werden. Die Ahnen stehen entweder in direkter familiärer Linie oder waren Oberhaupt einer Gruppe. Fast immer wird der Ahnenkult in Verbindung mit einem Opfer praktiziert, z.B. Trank-, Speise-, Brand- oder Kleidungsopfer (in frühen Zeiten auch Menschenopfer). Je nach Epoche und kulturgeschichtlichem Zusammenhang lassen sich mehr oder weniger unmittelbare Praktiken des Ahnenkults feststellen.

Kult przodków – praktyka religijna oparta na wierze w życie pozagrobowe przodków, ich wpływ na życie ziemskie oraz możliwość komunikowania się z nimi poprzez określone rytuały. Celem takich rytuałów jest zazwyczaj oddawanie zmarłym czci, dbanie o ich samopoczucie w życiu pozagrobowym (np. poprzez składanie ofiar, patrz: obiata), a także zwracanie się do nich o radę, błogosławieństwo lub protekcję. Za pozareligijne, społeczne funkcje kultu przodków uważa się podtrzymywanie więzów rodowych i rodzinnych, tj. lojalność, szacunek wobec starszych (patrz: nabożność synowska) czy ciągłość pokoleń.

Культ предков — обоготворение мертвых, одна из самых древних и распространенных форм религии.На известных ступенях развития человек всякого умершего считает существом сверхчеловеческим и божественным; он поклоняется, как богам, умершим из своей семьи, создает особые обряды этого поклонения и, таким образом, с течением времени вырабатывается то, что в науке известно под названием культа предков. Это почитание мертвых имеет почти всегда исключительно домашний характер, распространяется только на предков каждой отдельной семьи, в ней замыкается и получает дальнейшее развитие. Даже в самой семье сперва поклоняются не всем предкам, а только ближайшим, о которых сохранились у живых воспоминания; поклонение более отдаленным предкам характеризует более позднюю эпоху.
