Ammonia

Ammonia is a compound with the formula NH₃. It is normally encountered as a gas with a characteristic pungent odor. Ammonia contributes significantly to the nutritional needs of the planet as a precursor to foodstuffs and fertilizers. Ammonia, either directly or indirectly, is a building block for the synthesis of most pharmaceuticals. Although it is in wide use, ammonia is caustic and hazardous.

L’ammoniac est un composé chimique, de formule et dégageant une odeur très forte et désagréable. C'est une molécule pyramidale trigonale : l'azote (N) est au centre tandis que les trois atomes d'hydrogène occupent trois des quatre sommets, le quatrième étant occupé par 2 électrons libres.

Ammoniak ist eine chemische Verbindung von Stickstoff und Wasserstoff mit der Summenformel NH3. Benannt ist es nach dem Ammonssalz Ammoniumchlorid aus der Ammonsoase, heute Oase Siwa. Ammoniak ist ein stark stechend riechendes, farbloses und giftiges Gas, das zu Tränen reizt und erstickend wirkt. Die Dichte von Ammoniakgas ist geringer als die Dichte der Luft. Ammoniak wird mit den UN-Nummern 1005 (gasförmig) bzw. 2073 (wässrige Lösung) bezeichnet.
