American Revolutionary War

The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), also known as the American War of Independence, was a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and thirteen British colonies on the North American continent (as well as some naval conflict). The war was the culmination of the political American Revolution, whereby the colonists overthrew British rule. In 1775, Revolutionaries seized control of each of the thirteen colonial governments, set up the Second Continental Congress, and formed a Continental Army. The following year, they formally declared their independence as a new nation, the United States of America. From 1778 onward, other European powers would fight on the American side in the war. Meanwhile, Native Americans and African Americans served on both sides.

Er war der Höhepunkt der Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitsbewegung und führte mit der Unabhängigkeitserklärung 1776 und der Bildung der Konföderation 1777 zu deren siegreichem Abschluss und zur Entstehung der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika.

Wojna o niepodległość Stanów Zjednoczonych toczona w latach 1775-1783 pomiędzy Wielką Brytanią a jej trzynastoma koloniami w Ameryce Północnej. Była decydującą fazą rewolucji amerykańskiej. W wojnie po stronie kolonii brali udział oficerowie polscy, francuscy i niemieccy: Tadeusz Kościuszko, Kazimierz Pułaski, Marie Joseph de La Fayette, Jean-Baptiste de Rochambeau, Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben i wielu innych. La Guerra di indipendenza americana (o Rivoluzione americana) è l'insieme di eventi che per vent'anni, fra il 1763 e il 1783, vide su fronti opposti la Gran Bretagna e le sue tredici colonie dislocate sulla costa atlantica dell'America del Nord, a sud del Canada. Alla base del conflitto - che portò il 4 luglio 1776 alla dichiarazione di indipendenza e all'incarico a George Washington di costituire un esercito regolare - vi erano motivi di ordine economico, politico e militare. La scintilla che scatenò, nel 1770, la fase acuta del conflitto, fu l'introduzione di nuovi dazi pretesi dal governo inglese: lo scontro fra i coloni americani e le truppe britanniche, specialmente nelle strade della città di Boston (intorno a quella «linea rossa» - la red line - che ancor oggi ricorda quegli eventi), fu inevitabile.
