American Medical Association

The American Medical Association (AMA) founded 1847, incorporated 1897 is the largest association of medical doctors and medical students in the United States. The AMA's mission is to promote the art and science of medicine for the betterment of the public health, to advance the interests of physicians and their patients, to promote public health, to lobby for legislation favorable to physicians and patients, and to raise money for medical education. It also publishes the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which has the largest circulation of any weekly medical journal in the world,[1] nine medical specialty journals,[2] and a weekly newspaper for physicians, the American Medical News.[3]

Die American Medical Association (AMA) ist die größte Standesvertretung der Ärzte und Medizinstudenten in den Vereinigten Staaten mit Sitz in Chicago. Die Organisation wurde 1847 gegründet und 1897 eingetragen.Gegenwärtiger Präsident ist Ronald M. Davis. Rund 244.000 Ärzte und Medizinstudenten sind Mitglieder der Organisation. AMA publiziert die Zeitschrift Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Des weiteren gibt AMA neun medizinische Fachzeitschriften und eine wöchentliche Zeitung für Ärzte heraus, die American Medical News.
