American Chemical Society

The American Chemical Society (ACS) is a learned society (professional association) based in the United States that supports scientific inquiry in the field of chemistry. Founded in 1876 at New York University, the ACS currently has over 160,000 members at all degree-levels and in all fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and related fields. The ACS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The ACS holds national meetings twice a year covering the complete field of chemistry, plus dozens of smaller conferences in specific fields. Its publications division produces several scholarly journals including the Journal of the American Chemical Society. The primary source of income of the ACS is the Chemical Abstracts Service and its publications.  Chemical & Engineering News is the weekly news magazine published by the American Chemical Society and sent to all members.

L'American Chemical Society est une société savante basée aux États-Unis active dans le domaine de la recherche scientifique en chimie. Fondée en 1876, l'ACS compte actuellement plus de 158 000 membres dans tous les domaines de la chimie et du génie chimique. Elle organise deux congrès par an aux États-Unis couvrant toute la chimie, ainsi qu'un grand nombre de congrès moins importants sur des sujets plus spécifiques. Son département des publications édite plus de vingt revues scientifiques de premier plan (la plus ancienne d'entre elle, le Journal of the American Chemical Society, ayant été créée en 1879) et plusieurs collections de livres. Die American Chemical Society ist eine 1876 gegründete wissenschaftliche Fachgesellschaft in den USA, die die Forschung im Bereich der Chemie fördert. Sie hat über 158 000 Mitglieder. Offizielle Treffen zum gesamten Gebiet der Chemie finden zweimal im Jahr statt, dazu viele kleinere Konferenzen zu Spezialthemen. Darüber hinaus gibt die ACS mehrere Fachzeitschriften heraus, die älteste von ihnen ist das Journal of the American Chemical Society, auch JACS abgekürzt. Neuere Publikationen , spezifisch ACS Chemical Biology haben auch auf den Online-Bereich beschränkte Inhalte und sogar ein WIKI und ChemBioGlossar.

American Chemical Society (ACS) to stowarzyszenie naukowe z siedzibą w Stanach Zjednoczonych, zajmujące się wspieraniem różnych zagadnień związanych z chemią i naukami pokrewnymi. Stowarzyszenie zostało założone w 1876 roku na Uniwersytecie Nowojorskim. Aktualnie ACS liczy 160000 członków rozproszonych po całym świecie. ACS wydaje czasopismo Journal of the American Chemical Society.
