Amarna letters

The designation Amarna letters (sometimes "Amarna correspondence") denotes an archive of correspondence on clay tablets, mostly diplomatic, between the Egyptian administration and its representatives in Canaan and Amurru. The letters were found in Upper Egypt at Amarna, the modern name for the capital of the Ancient Egyptian New Kingdom, primarily from the reign of pharaoh Amenhotep IV, better known as Akhenaten (1350s - 1330s BC). The Amarna letters are unusual in Egyptological research, being mostly written in Akkadian cuneiform, the language not of Ancient Egypt, but of ancient Mesopotamia. The known tablets currently total 382 in number, 24 further tablets having been recovered since the Norwegian Assyriologist Jørgen Alexander Knudtzon's landmark edition of the Amarna correspondence, Die El-Amarna-Tafeln in two volumes (1907 and 1915).

Les lettres d'Amarna sont des tablettes d'ordre diplomatique, retrouvées sur le site de Tell el-Amarna, nom moderne de la capitale du Nouvel Empire d'Égypte antique sous le règne d'Amenhotep , plus connu sous le nom d'Akhénaton, qui régna de -1369 à -1353. Ces tablettes, rédigées pour la plupart en akkadien cunéiforme, sont faites d'argile. On en dénombre actuellement 382.

Bei den sogenannten Amarna-Briefen (auch Amarna-Archiv) handelt es sich um einen umfangreichen Fund an Tontafeln in akkadischer Keilschrift des Palastarchives des Pharao Echnaton aus seiner Residenz Achet-Aton, dem heutigen Tell el Amarna in Ägypten.

Listy z Amarna - archiwum korespondencji dyplomatycznej nadsyłanej przez wasali i państwa niezależne z Palestyny, Syrii, Mezopotamii i Azji Mniejszej na dwór Echnatona i Tutanchamona. Zapisane w języku akadyjskim pismem klinowym na glinianych tabliczkach listy, odkopano podczas prac wykopaliskowych w 1887 roku na terenie Tell el-Amarna, gdzie znajdowała się stolica faraona Echnatona. Listy zawierają cenne wiadomości o wydarzeniach, sytuacji politycznej i kulturze materialnej okresu.

De Amarna-brieven is de naam die gewoonlijk gebruikt wordt voor een collectie van brieven, merendeels diplomatiek van aard, die gevonden is in Amarna, de moderne naam voor de hoofdstad van Achnaton die regeerde ten tijde van het Egyptische Nieuwe Rijk. De brieven zijn geschreven tijdens het bewind van deze farao, die regeerde van 1353 tot 1335 v.Chr. De Amarna-brieven zijn uitzonderlijk in  Egyptologisch onderzoek, aangezien zij voornamelijk in Akkadisch spijkerschrift op kleitabletten geschreven zijn. Op dit moment zijn er in totaal 382 tabletten bekend; 24 tabletten zijn ontdekt nadat de Noorse assyrioloog Jørgen Alexander Knudtzon zijn historische editie van de Amarna-correspondentie beschreef in Die El-Amarna Tafeln in twee delen (1907 en 1915).
