Alport syndrome
Alport syndrome is a genetic condition characterized by the progressive loss of kidney function and hearing. Alport syndrome can also affect the eyes. The presence of blood in the urine (hematuria) is almost always found in this condition.It was first identified in a British family by Dr. Cecil A. Alport in 1927.

It is a rare condition charaterized by
*hereditary nephritis with haematuria
*Progressive renal failure
*High-frequency nerve deafness
It is principally expressed in males and both X-linked and dominant modes of inheritance have been discribed.
Some 15% cases may have ocular abnormalities e.g. bilateral anterior lenticonus and macular and perimacular retinal flecks.
