Allahu Akbar est une chanson nationaliste exhortant en la création d'une grande nation arabe. Elle est devenue célèbre lors de la crise du canal de Suez en 1956. Elle a été adoptée un peu plus tard comme hymne national par le leader libyen Mouammar Kadhafi le  1969.

Takbir ist ein Verbalnomen des Verbs kabbara in der Bedeutung „Allahu akbar sagen“ . Diese Formel wird im Islam sehr häufig gebraucht.Allah ist das arabische Wort für Gott. Akbar ist die Elativ-Form des Adjektivs , mit der Bedeutung „größer“, „am größten“ oder „sehr groß“. Der Elativ umfasst in seiner grammatischen Funktion sowohl die Bedeutung des Komparativs (größer als) als auch die des Superlativs (am größten). Der arabische Elativ erfüllt jedoch nur in der Kombination mit der Präposition min die Funktion eines Vergleichs, zum Beispiel Allahu akbar min mala'ikatihi („Allah ist größer als seine Engel“). Ansonsten entspricht die Bedeutung dem Superlativ („am größten“).

Allāh Akbar (الله أَكْبَر), ovvero: "Dio è Sommo", è un'espressione che, nella religione musulmana, è spesso usata nel richiamo da parte del muezzin per ricordare ai fedeli l'inizio del periodo d'elezione utile ad assolvere l'obbligo della preghiera canonica (salat). L'espressione è impiegata anche prima dell'effettiva esecuzione della salat, oltre che in altre occasioni non religiose in cui si voglia ostentare la propria fede islamica in Dio.
