Allahabad (; ; ), or Settled by God in Persian, is a major city of India and is one of the main holy cities of Hinduism. It was renamed by the Mughal emperor Akbar from the original (still unofficially used) native name of Prayaga, and is by some accounts the second-oldest city in India. It is located in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, lying some south of the state capital, Lucknow. It is the administrative headquarters of the Allahabad District. Allahabad has been ranked the world's 130th fastest growing city (growth rate: 2.09 per cent (2011)). The ancient name of the city is Prayaga (Sanskrit for "place of sacrifice"), as it is believed to be the spot where Brahma offered his first sacrifice after creating the world. It is one of four sites of the mass Hindu pilgrimage Kumbh Mela, the others being Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. It has a position of importance in Hindu scriptures for it is situated at Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the holy rivers Ganges and Yamuna, and the ancient Sarasvati River.

Allahabad (Persisch für Stadt Gottes; Hindi: , ), von Hindus noch heute oft mit dem alten Namen Prayag bezeichnet, ist eine Stadt im indischen Bundesstaat Uttar Pradesh mit 1.078.658 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2005), am Zusammenfluss von Ganges und Yamuna gelegen. 1583 zerstörte der Mogulkaiser Akbar das alte Prayag, eine der heiligsten Städte der Hindus und gründete an seiner Stelle Allahabad.

Allahabad är en stad i den indiska delstaten Uttar Pradesh, och är den administrativa huvudorten för distriktet Allahabad. Staden hade 975 393 invånare vid folkräkningen 2001, med totalt 1 042 229 invånare i hela storstadsområdet, inklusive Allahabads garnisonsstad samt ett antal out growth-områden. Storstadsområdet har en beräknad folkmängd av 1 201 000 invånare år 2007. Allahabad är belägen vid floderna Ganges' och Yamunas sammanflöde.
