Alice Springs

Alice Springs is a town and the second largest centre in the Northern Territory of Australia. Popularly known as "the Alice" or simply "Alice", it had a population of 26,486 in 2005. Averaging 576 metres above sea level, the town is nearly equidistant from Adelaide and Darwin, close to the geographic centre of Australia. The site is known as Mparntwe to its traditional inhabitants, the Arrernte, who have lived in the Central Australian desert in and around what is now Alice Springs for more than 50,000 years.

Alice Springs ( habitants) est une ville située dans le Territoire du Nord de l'Australie, dans l'Outback, au cœur des terres, en plein désert, à kilomètres de Darwin et à kilomètres d'Adélaïde. Alice Springs est, par la population, la deuxième ville du territoire après Darwin. Alice Springs est également appelée « the Alice » par ses habitants. C'est Charles Todd qui nomma ainsi le lieu, en hommage à sa femme Alice. Charles Todd dirigea la mise en place du télégraphe entre Darwin et Adelaïde.

Alice Springs to duże miasto położone w Terytorium Północnym w Australii. Według spisu ludności z (2006), zamieszkuje je 26 180 osób – jest to drugie co do wielkości miasto Terytorium Północnego. W języku angielskim, szczególnie w Australii, nazywa się je często "the Alice". Tereny na których się znajduje są nazywane przez zamieszkujące je plemię aborygeńskie Ardente "Mparntwe".

Alice Springs, originalmente Stuart o Steward, in Australia, è la seconda città del Territorio del Nord per dimensione ed importanza, dopo la capitale Darwin. Viene anche chiamata la capitale dell'Australia Centrale, nonostante non esista come Stato ma venga considerata una regione che copre territorialmente alcune porzioni dei tre stati dell'Australia Meridionale, Territorio del Nord ed Australia Occidentale. Si trova in pieno deserto, anche se con il passare degli anni è stata trasformata in un giardino: la città è infatti circondata da parchi.
