Alex Skolnick

Alex Skolnick (born September 29, 1968, grew up in Berkeley, California) is an American jazz and rock guitarist. He is a member of the thrash metal band Testament, formed in San Francisco in 1983. Skolnick left the band in 1992 — returning briefly to re-record some old material for the band's First Strike is Still Deadly release as well as the "Thrash of the Titans" all-star performance in 2001. He joined the band Savatage for the recording of Handful of Rain, as well as its follow-up live album and home video release Japan Live '94. He has also recorded and briefly toured with the Stu Hamm band, and played with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. In 2004, Skolnick made a guest appearance on Lamb of God's Ashes of the Wake album. Alex recorded a solo for the instrumental track bearing the same name as the album.

Skolnick znany jest z wieloletnich występów w grupie muzycznej Testament, ponadto współpracował z takimi wykonawcami jak Lamb of God, Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Attention Deficit, The Dream Engine, Skol-Patrol czy Ozzy Osbourne.

Biografia Nato a Berkeley, California, il 29 settembre 1968, è ricordato soprattutto per la militanza nella thrash metal band Testament, portati alla ribalta da dischi fondamentali del genere come The Legacy e The New Order. Influenzato principalmente da Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter e Randy Rhoads, Alex inizia a studiare chitarra all'età di nove anni e all'età di quattrodici prende lezioni da Joe Satriani. A sedici anni entra nei Testament, al tempo chiamati Legacy. Da subito si fa notare per il suo stile chitarristico insolito, ispirato, oltre che ai classici guitar heroes del metal, anche a musicisti jazz, blues e funky.
