Aleph

is the reconstructed name of the first letter of the Proto-Canaanite alphabet, continued in descended Semitic alphabets as Phoenician  ,  Syriac  , Hebrew Aleph , and Arabic  .Aleph originally represented the glottal stop (IPA ), usually transliterated as , a symbol based on the Greek spiritus lenis , for example in the transliteration of the letter name itself, .The Phoenician letter gave rise to the Greek Alpha (Α), being re-interpreted to express not the glottal consonant but the accompanying vowel, and hence the Latin A and Cyrillic А.

Aleph (א, IPA //) est la première lettre de l'alphabet hébreu. Elle signifie étymologiquement taureau ou boeuf. Son origine remonte à l'alphabet phénicien et la lettre est sans doute apparentée au coup de glotte de l'alphabet ougaritique. C'est de son nom, phénicien prononcé en grec que dérive le mot alphabet des langues romanes (אלף-בית, aleph-beth).

אAleph è la prima lettera dell'alfabeto ebraico. Essa ha come corrispondente greco l'alfa e da questa radice origina anche la A.Poiché nell'ebraico le lettere avevano anche un forte significato simbolico, oggi si ritiene che l'Aleph rappresenti Dio, Uno, Unico e Eterno. Graficamente l'aleph si presenta come due Yod connesse da un Vav. Nel sistema numerico ebraico ogni Yod vale 10 e ogni Vav vale 6. Dalla somma totale si ottiene il numero 26, che è pari alla somma del nome divino, YHWH; infatti la Yod come precedentemente detto vale 10 più ogni He che vale 5 e il Vav con valore di 6.
