Alentejo is a south-central region of Portugal. The origin of its name, "Além-Tejo", literally translates to "Beyond the Tagus" or "Across the Tagus". The region is separated from the rest of Portugal by the Tagus river, and extends to the south where it borders the Algarve. Alentejo is a region known for its polyphonic singing groups, comparable to those found on Sardinia and Corsica.

Alentejo är en av Portugals fem regioner. Namnet Alentejo (além do Tejo) betyder bokstavligen "bortom Tajo". Regionen har 770 265 invånare (2007).

Alentejo (dosłownie Kraina za Tagiem; fon. /a.lẽ.n'ta.żu/) - historyczna prowincja Portugalii, obejmująca ok. 1/3 powierzchni kraju (26 000 km²) i skupiająca niecałe 10% jego ludności (776 585 mieszkańców, stan na rok 2001). Wyróżnić można Alto Alentejo (Alentejo Górne) ze stolicą w Évorze, Baixo Alentejo (Alentejo Dolne) z głównym ośrodkiem w Beji oraz Ribatejo, skupione wokół aglomeracji Santarém. Region zajmuje w przeważającej części nizinne (z wyjątkiem gór São Mamede w północno-wschodniej części prowincji) tereny na południe od rzeki Tag.
