Octocorallia
Octocorallia (also known as Alcyonaria) is a subclass of Anthozoa comprising ~3,000 species of water-based organisms formed of colonial polyps with 8-fold symmetry. It includes the blue coral, soft corals, sea pens, and gorgonians (sea fans and sea whips) within three orders: Alcyonacea, Helioporacea, and Pennatulacea. These organisms have an internal skeleton secreted by mesoglea and polyps with eight tentacles and eight mesentaries. As with all Cnidarians these organisms have a complex life cycle including a motile phase when they are considered plankton and later characteristic sessile phase.

Octocorallia
Die Octocorallia sind eine Unterklasse der Blumentiere (Anthozoa). Im Deutschen werden die verschiedenen Gruppen je nach Wuchsform oder Festigkeit als Weich- (Alcyonacea), Leder- (Alcyoniidae), Röhren- (Stolonifera) oder Hornkorallen, Gorgonien (Gorgonacea), Seefächer oder Seefedern (Pennatulacea) bezeichnet, Namen die heute zum größten Teil keine taxonomische Gültigkeit mehr haben. Insgesamt 3.200 der 10.000 Nesseltierarten gehören zu den Octocorallia . Am Bau der Korallenriffe sind die Octocorallia, von wenigen Ausnahmen abgesehen, nicht beteiligt, da sie kein stabiles Skelett besitzen.

Octocorallia
Les Octocoralliaires (Alcyonaria ou anciennement Octocorallia) sont des anthozoaires possédant un pharynx ectodermique (ovalaire ou aplati dans le cas d'une symétrie bilatérale) et une cavité gastrique séparée par huit cloisons (dont les bords libres sont riches en cellules digestives, les entéroïdes). Comme tous les anthozoaires, on ne les trouve que sous la forme polype (benthique sédentaires). Ces cnidaires ont une symétrie d'ordre huit (les organes et tentacules sont réprésentés huit fois). De plus ils sont facilement reconnaissables car leurs tentacules possédent des ramifications en forme de plumes (pinnules).

Koralowce osmiopromienne
Koralowce ośmiopromienne (Alcyonaria, Octocorallia) - podgromada koralowców.
Gatunki należące do tej podgromady żyją we wszystkich morzach i na różnych głębokościach. Wszystkie są kolonijne. Kolonie są przeważnie przyrośnięte do podłoża albo tkwią luźno w piasku. Polipy odżywiają się drobnymi organizmami, rosną powoli i należą do zwierząt długowiecznych. Można je z łatwością odróżnić wśród parzydełkowców, ponieważ mają 8 pierzastych ramion pokrytych drobnymi wyrostkami-pinulami. Odpowiednio do liczby ramion mają 8 przegród w jamie chłonąco-trawiącej, które są zupełne, to jest wszystkie przyrastają do gardzieli. Symetria polipa jest ośmiopromienista.
