Albert II of Belgium

Albert II (Albert Félix Humbert Théodore Christian Eugène Marie (French) or Albert Felix Humbert Theodoor Christiaan Eugène Marie (Dutch)) (born June 6, 1934) is the current King of the Belgians and a constitutional monarch. He is a member of the former ducal house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. He is the younger son of King Leopold III (1901-1983) and his first wife, Princess Astrid of Sweden (1905-1935). His godparents were Prince Felix of Luxembourg and his paternal grandmother, Queen Elisabeth of Belgium.

Albert II (né le au château du Stuyvenberg) est le 6 et actuel roi des Belges depuis la mort de son frère Baudouin. Il est le second fils du roi Léopold III et de la reine Astrid, née princesse de Suède. Titré à sa naissance prince de Liège, son nom complet est Albert Félix Humbert Théodore Christian Eugène Marie de Belgique. Il prête serment devant les Chambres réunies le en français, néerlandais et allemand.

Albert II. (* 6. Juni 1934 in Brüssel; ganzer Vorname Albert Felix Humbert Theodor Christian Eugen Maria) ist seit 1993 König der Belgier aus dem Haus Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha. Er folgte seinem älteren kinderlosen Bruder Baudouin auf den Thron.

Albert II, właściwie: Albert Felix Humbert Theodore Chretien Eugene Marie von Wettin (ur. 6 czerwca 1934, w Laeken, obecnie dzielnica Brukseli) - król Belgów od 1993.Jest drugim synem króla Leopolda III i królowej Astrid Szwedzkiej, oraz bratem króla Baudouina I. Kształcił się w szkołach w Niemczech (Hirschstein), gdzie podczas II wojny światowej internowano rodzinę królewską. Po wojnie kształcił się w Genewie. Oficer marynarki, przebywał w ośrodkach szkoleniowych w Stanach Zjednoczonych. 1958 otrzymał godność senatora. Sprawował wiele funkcji honorowych, był m.in. honorowym przewodniczącym Izby Handlu Zagranicznego i prezesem Belgijskiego Czerwonego Krzyża. 9 sierpnia 1993, po śmierci brata, został zaprzysiężony jako szósty król Belgów.
