Albert Camus

Albert Camus (November 7, 1913 – January 4, 1960) was a French author and philosopher who won the Nobel prize in 1957. Although he is often associated with existentialism, Camus refused this label: as he wrote in his essay The Rebel, his whole life was devoted against the philosophy of nihilism. His most important phrase for the future was: "All of us, among the ruins, are preparing a renaissance beyond the limits of nihilism. But few of us know it".

(I suoi discorsi pronunciati in occasione del ritiro del premio sono raccolti in Discours de Suéde edito da Gallimard)Il suo lavoro è sempre risultato teso alla ricerca di un profondo legame fra gli esseri umani, un legame in grado di renderli consapevoli dell'assurdo di certe manifestazioni volte a recidere il legame stesso, come ad esempio la guerra e le divisioni di pensiero in generale.L'unico scopo del combattere rimane quindi, per Camus, combattere contro le ingiustizie e le espressioni di poca umanità, come la pena di morte. «Se la Natura condanna a morte l'uomo, che almeno l'uomo non lo facesse», usava dire.
