Albedo

The albedo of an object is the extent to which it reflects light, defined as the ratio of reflected to incident electromagnetic radiation. It is a unitless measure indicative of a surface's or body's diffuse reflectivity. The word is derived from albus, a Latin word for "white". The albedo is an important concept in climatology and astronomy. In climatology it is sometimes expressed as a percentage. Its value depends on the frequency of radiation considered: unqualified, it usually refers to some appropriate average across the spectrum of visible light. In general, the albedo depends on the direction and directional distribution of incoming radiation. Exceptions are Lambertian surfaces, which scatter radiation equally in all directions, so their albedo does not depend on the incoming distribution. In realistic cases, a bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) is required to characterise the scattering properties of a surface accurately, although albedos are a very useful first approximation.

L'albédo est le rapport de l'énergie solaire réfléchie par une surface sur l'énergie solaire incidente. On utilise une échelle  graduée de 0 à 1, avec 0 correspondant au noir, pour un corps avec aucune réflexion, et 1 au miroir parfait, pour un corps diffusant dans toutes les directions et n'absorbant rien du rayonnement électromagnétique visible qu'il reçoit.

Die Albedo (lateinisch albedo = „Weißheit“; v. lat. albus = weiß) ist ein Maß für das Rückstrahlvermögen von diffus reflektierenden, also nicht selbst leuchtenden Oberflächen. Sie wird bestimmt durch den Quotienten aus reflektierter zu einfallender Lichtmenge.Die Albedo ist vor allem in der Meteorologie von Bedeutung, wo sie Aussagen darüber ermöglicht, wie stark sich Luft über verschiedenen Oberflächen erwärmt. Sie findet auch in der 3D-Computergrafik Anwendung, wo sie als Maß für die diffuse Streukraft verschiedener Materialien zur Simulation der Volumenstreuung dient. Auch in der Astronomie spielt die Albedo eine wichtige Rolle, da sie mit den grundlegenden Parametern von Himmelskörpern (z. B. der Oberflächentemperatur eines Planeten) zusammenhängt. Ferner hat die Albedo auch eine große Bedeutung für den Erhalt des Weltklimas.

L'esatto valore della frazione dipende, per lo stesso materiale, dalla lunghezza d'onda della radiazione considerata.
