Air Force Base

An Air Force Base (AFB) is a military base of any of a number of air forces, including the United States Air Force (USAF) and the South African Air Force (SAAF). Placement of the standard abbreviation varies, with the USAF using it after the name of the base, such as in Dover AFB, and the SAAF using it before the name of the base, such as in AFB Hoedspruit. The Royal Australian Air Force uses a slightly different format referring to bases as "RAAF Base" (Royal Australian Air Force Base).

Militärflugplatz

Ein Militärflugplatz, in Deutschland und Österreich auch Fliegerhorst genannt, ist ein vom Militär genutzter Flugplatz. Er verfügt neben den für einen Flugplatz üblichen Anlagen, wie Start- und Landebahnen, Rollwegen, Abstellflächen, Wartungs-, Navigations- und Kommunikationseinrichtungen häufig über Bunker zum Abstellen der Flugzeuge, welche auch als HAS (Hardened Aircaft Shelter-gepanzerter Flugzeugunterstand) bezeichnet werden.
