Ahvaz

The city of Ahvaz or Ahwaz ( ahvāz or ), is the capital of the Iranian province of Khūzestān. It is built on the banks of the Karun River and is situated in the middle of Khūzestān Province. The city has an average elevation of 20 meters above sea level. There are approximately 1.6 million inhabitants as of 2006.

Ahvaz (; Ahvaz) ist eine Stadt im Iran am Ufer des Flusses Karun mitten in der Provinz Chuzestan. Der neuere Teil von Ahvaz mit Industriegebieten liegt rechts des Karun, die älteren Teile am linken Ufer. Mit über 800.000 Einwohnern ist Ahvaz die größte Stadt der Provinz Chuzestan. Eine große Minderheit mit ca. 30 % der Einwohner sind Iraner arabischer Abstammung. Die Umgangssprache ist meist  persisch, aber öfters auch arabisch. Außerdem leben in Ahvaz Luren oder Shoushtari.

Ahvaz of ook wel Ahwaz is een stad in de provincie Khoezistan in Iran. De stad ligt aan de oevers van de rivier Karun. Het is een belangrijk centrum in het laagland in het zuidwesten van het land. Ahvaz ligt niet ver van Irak. De stad had in 2000 naar schatting 900.000 inwoners.
