Agricultural Marketing Service

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is a division of the United States Department of Agriculture, and has programs in six commodity areas: cotton, dairy, fruit and vegetable, livestock and seed, poultry, and tobacco. These programs provide testing, standardization, grading and market news services for those commodities, and oversee marketing agreements and orders, administer research and promotion programs, and purchase commodities for federal food programs. The AMS enforces certain federal laws such as the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act and the Federal Seed Act.

A USDA agency that establishes standards for grades of cotton, tobacco, meat, dairy products, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. It also operates inspection and grading services and market news services, and provides supervisory administration for federal marketing orders.
  

Among its activities, the Agriculture Deparment's AMS is available to
foreign buyers to assure that any product shipped overseas meets contract
specifications. The service is operated on a user-fee basis. AMS works
with the buyers to write a specification that can be certified. The
requirements for USDA certification can be made apart of the purchase
contract.
