Afonso III of Portugal
Afonso III (; rare English alternatives: Alphonzo or Alphonse), or Affonso (Archaic Portuguese), Alfonso or Alphonso (Portuguese-Galician) or Alphonsus (Latin), the Bolognian (Port. o Bolonhês), King of Portugal (5 May 1210 in Coimbra – 16 February 1279 in Alcobaça, Coimbra or Lisbon) was the first to use the title King of Portugal and the Algarve, from 1249. He was the second son of King Afonso II of Portugal and his wife, Urraca of Castile; he succeeded his brother, King Sancho II of Portugal, who was removed from the throne on 4 January 1248.

Alfons III (król Portugalii)
Alfons był synem króla Portugalii, Alfonsa II i jego żony - infantki Urraki Kastylijskiej. W 1223 r. królem Portugalii został Sancho II, starszy brat Alfonsa. Alfons, nie spodziewając się otrzymać tron, ożenił się (1238) z Matyldą, dziedziczką hrabstwa Boulogne i osiadł we Francji. W 1246 r. Sancho popadł w konflikt z Kościołem i został ekskomunikowany i obalony. Alfons zgodził się objąć tron i natychmiast wrócił do Portugalii i został królem po swoim bracie. Wiązało się to jednak ze zrzeknięciem się hrabstwa Boulogne i rozwodem z Matyldą.

Afonso III de Portugal
D. Afonso III (Coimbra, 5 de Maio de 1210 – id., 16 de Fevereiro de 1279), cognominado O Bolonhês por haver sido casado com a Condessa de Bolonha, foi o quinto Rei de Portugal. Afonso III era o segundo filho do rei Afonso II e de sua mulher Urraca de Castela, e sucedeu a seu irmão Sancho II em 1248.
