Advanced Linux Sound Architecture

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (known by the acronym ALSA) is a Linux kernel component intended to replace the original Open Sound System (OSS) for providing device drivers for sound cards. Some of the goals of the ALSA project at its inception were automatic configuration of sound-card hardware, and graceful handling of multiple sound devices in a system, goals which it has largely met. A couple of different frameworks, such as JACK, use ALSA to allow performing low-latency professional-grade audio editing and mixing.

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) est un composant du noyau Linux, destiné à remplacer OSS pour le support des cartes son. Les objectifs initiaux du projet comportent la configuration automatique des cartes son et le support aisé de plusieurs cartes son dans le même système, et ont été largement atteints. Die Advanced Linux Sound Architecture, ALSA, stellt eine Soundarchitektur für Linux-Systeme bereit, die über Audio- und MIDI-Funktionalität verfügt. ALSA steht unter der GPL und  Lesser General Public License.ALSA ist ein Linux-Kernelmodul, das verschiedene Kerneltreiber für Soundkarten durch einen einzelnen Gerätetreiber abstrahiert und die Unterschiede der Soundkarten intern behandelt. Die Ziele des ALSA-Projektes waren insbesondere die Unterstützung einer automatischen Konfiguration der Soundkarten und eine elegante Handhabung mehrerer Soundgeräte in einem System. Diese Ziele wurden größtenteils erreicht. Verschiedene Frameworks wie JACK nutzen ALSA für Audiobearbeitung und -abmischung auf professionellem Niveau mit niedriger Latenz.

ALSA - ang. Advanced Linux Sound Architecture - system obsługi dźwięku dla Linuksa wprowadzony w jądrze z serii 2.5 i mający zastąpić starszy Open Sound System. Dostarcza moduły jądra ze sterownikami kart dźwiękowych oraz bibliotekę alsa-lib.Projekt został rozpoczęty w 1998 jako samodzielny sterownik dla karty Gravis Ultrasound, dopiero później stał się częścią jądra Linux. Od linii 2.6 domyślny sterownik. Pracę nad ALSĄ nadzoruje człowiek, który rozpoczął ten projekt - Jaroslav Kysela.

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (noto al grande pubblico con il solo acronimo ALSA) è un componente del kernel Linux creato per sostituire l'originale Open Sound System (OSS) nella fornitura di device driver per le schede audio. Alcuni degli scopi del progetto ALSA al momento della sua ideazione erano la configurazione automatica dell'hardware, e la gestione efficiente di schede audio semplici in un sistema - scopi che sono stati quasi del tutto raggiunti. Una serie di framework, quali JACK, usano ALSA per svolgere operazioni di editing e mixing audio a bassa latenza di tipo professionale.
