Additive (lat. additivum „hinzugegeben, beiliegend“), auch Hilfsstoffe oder Zusatzstoffe sind Zusatzstoffe, die Produkten in geringen Mengen zugesetzt werden, um bestimmte Eigenschaften zu erreichen oder zu verbessern.

Quand il est utilisé comme un nom, un additif désigne une substance qui est introduite dans un mélange pour apporter une propriété spécifique.
Par exemple, un sucrant est utilisé comme un additif au goût dans la nourriture.
Dans l'industrie pétrolière, un additif est un produit chimique qu'on ajoute à un produit raffiné. Par exemple, le carburant issu du raffinage n'est pas coloré. Pour distinguer l'essence ordinaire du supercarburant, on ajoute un colorant pour les distinguer l'un de l'autre.
