Adana

Adana (}) (the ancient Antioch in Cilicia or Antioch on the Sarus)) is the capital of Adana Province in Turkey. According to the 2000 census, with 1,130,710 inhabitants, it is the fifth most populous city of Turkey (after İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Bursa). The 2006 estimate of Adana's population is 1,271,894.

Adana est une ville de Turquie, préfecture de la province du même nom, située au bord de la mer Méditerranée. La ville comprend deux districts, Yüregir et Seyhan. Avec habitants, Adana est une des villes les plus dynamiques et la cinquième ville de Turquie après Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir et Bursa. Pour les Turcs, la ville est associée à la gastronomie, notamment le kebab, le salgam suyu (jus de navet) et les oranges, un climat chaud et la culture du coton.

Adana (altgriechisch Άδανα) ist mit knapp 3 Millionen Einwohnern (2007) die viertgrößte Stadt der Türkei und Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz. Sie ist die größte Stadt in der fruchtbaren Tiefebene Çukurova. Die Çukurova-Universität in Adana ist eine der größten Universitäten in der Türkei mit rund 35.000 Studenten. Der Name ist abgeleitet von Adanos, dem Sohn des Kronos aus der griechischen Mythologie.
