Acropora is a genus of small polyp stony coral in the Phylum Cnidaria. Some of its species are known as table coral, elkhorn coral and staghorn coral. There are over 149 described species. Acropora is one of the major reef building corals responsible for building the immense calcium carbonate substructure that supports the thin living skin of a reef.

Die Acroporen sind die artenreichste Gattung der Steinkorallen (Scleractinia). Während es in der Karibik nur drei Arten gibt, und die Acroporen um Hawaii fehlen, gibt der australische Steinkorallenspezialist Veron allein für Ostaustralien 73 Arten an. Die genaue Artenzahl im gesamten Indopazifik ist unbekannt, da es wegen der vernetzten Evolution dieser Gattung eine Vielzahl von Formen gibt, deren Artstatus nicht bestimmt werden kann.

Les acropores ou Acropora (du Latin et grec, « pores au sommet ») est un d'anthozoaires zooxanthellés coloniaux ou coraux hermatypiques. La forme varie selon le milieu du buissonnant et branchu au tubulaire ou en plaque horizontale. La plupart des espèces sont brunes ou vertes, avec de rares exceptions appréciées des aquariophiles.

Acroporidae of Acropora vormen een onderorde van de Steenkoralen of Madreporaria. Zij vormen grote platte schotelvormige of vertakte formaties die wel 2 meter of meer hoog kunnen worden. De poliepen zitten in buisvormige bekertjes over het hele oppervlak verspreid. De koralen bevatten zooxanthellae. Dit zijn symbiotische algen die ernergie produceren via een proces dat fotosynthese heet. Zij komen het meest voor op ondiepe riffen waar veel zonlicht binnendringt. De meest soorten zijn bruinig of groenig gekleurd. Sommige bevatten ook fellere kleuren. Door hun snelle groei behoren zij tot de belangrijkste rifbouwers.

Acropora on kivikorallien suku, johon kuuluu ainakin 182 lajia. Niitä tavataan indopasifisella merialueella, missä ne muodostavat koralliriuttoja. Monia lajeja pidetää riutta-akvaarioissa. Ne muodostuvat kapeista haaroista, jotka voivat edelleen muodostaa joko levymäisiä tai puumaisia rakenteita. Acropora-korallit elävät symbioosissa zooxanthellae-levien kanssa, ja saavat pääosan ravinnostaan yhteyttämällä. Niillä on myös pienet polttiaislonkerot, jolla ne pyydystävät planktonia rvinnokseen.
