Acromantula

Acromantulas are giant spiders that feature in the Harry Potter books. The only one of these named in the books is Aragog, appearing first in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, who is Hagrid's 'pet'. The acromantula can speak in human languages and have a poison in their pincers. The venom of an acromantula is said to be highly valuable, as described upon Aragog's death in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.Acromentulas will devour anyone that comes near them as hinted in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by Aragog and confirmed inHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when Hagrid says "Can you belive that Aragog was the only thing that kept the other spider fom attacking me?"

De Acromantula is een fabeldier uit de Harry Potter-boeken van de Britse schrijfster J.K. Rowling.Acromantula's zijn reusachtige spinnen met acht ogen. Acromantula's zijn bedekt met dik zwart haar. Ze hebben poten die zo'n vijf meter kunnen worden en beschikken tevens over gigantische scharen. Het zijn vleeseters die graag grote prooien eten. Hun webben hebben de vorm van een koepel en het vrouwtje, dat groter is dan het mannetje, kan per keer tot honderd zachte eieren ter grootte van een volleybal leggen. De eieren komen na zes tot acht weken uit. Het Ministerie van Toverkunst heeft de handel in deze eieren verboden. Het gif van een Acromantula is zeer waardevol. De belangrijkste vijand van de Acromantula is de Basilisk.
