Acre, Israel

] Acre (or Akko) ( akko; akka) , is a city in the Western Galilee district of northern Israel. It is situated on a low promontory at the northern extremity of the Haifa Bay. According to the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Acre had a population 45,800 at the end of 2005. From ancient times, Acre was regarded as the "key to Palestine" because of its strategic coastal location.

Akkon oder Akko, im Altertum auch Ptolemais (auch: Akers, Acre, Accho, Acco, Hacco und St. Jean d’Acre), heute amtlich Hebräisch / ‘Akkô, Arabisch عكّا ‘Akkā , ist eine alte Stadt in Galiläa im Nordbezirk Israels.Die Altstadt liegt auf einer Landzunge am Nordrand der Bucht von Haifa und ist von einer bis zu 150 m starken Festungsanlage umgeben. Auf der Landseite ist die Altstadt heute von der Neustadt umschlossen. Während die Neustadt eine mehrheitlich jüdische Bevölkerung aufweist, wird die Altstadt fast ausschließlich von israelischen Arabern bewohnt und ist noch heute die orientalischste aller Städte Israels.

Akka (właściwie Acre, hebr. עכו; arab. عكا, w językach europejskich na ogół zwane Akra - fr. Saint-Jean d'Acre) - miasto portowe położone w Dystrykcie Północnym w Izraelu. Jest położone na niskim cyplu przy północnym krańcu Zatoki Hajfy, nad Morzem Śródziemnym. Jego strategiczne położenie powodowało, że już od Starożytności było uważane za klucz do Lewantu.
