Acholiland

Acholiland or "Acholi-land" (also known as Acholi sub-region) is an inexact term that refers to the region traditionally inhabited by the Acholi ethnic group in northern Uganda. It is composed of the present-day Ugandan districts of Gulu, Kitgum, and Pader. While Acholi also live north of the Sudanese border, they are often excluded from the political meaning of the term. Since 1987, an insurgency carried out by the Lord's Resistance Army has ravaged Acholiland and bordering districts.

Als Acholiland wird das traditionelle Siedlungsgebiet des afrikanischen Volkes der Acholi bezeichnet.Meist sind damit die Distrikte Gulu, Pader und Kitgum im Norden Ugandas gemeint. Die jenseits der Grenze im Südsudan lebenden Acholi werden in der Bezeichnung Acholiland oft nicht berücksichtigt.Das ugandische Acholiland sowie die angrenzenden Distrikte sind seit 1987 vom Krieg zwischen der ugandischen Armee und den Rebellen der Lord's Resistance Army betroffen.

Acholiland - terytorium w północnej Ugandzie zamieszkane przez lud Acholi.W styczniu 1986 obalony został pochodzący z plemienia Acholi prezydent Ugandy Tito Otello, co zaowocowało wybuchem w sierpniu 1986 powstania na północy kraju, na czele którego stanął Joseph Kony. Dowodzona przez niego Boża Armia Oporu zajęła zamieszkane przez Acholi prowincje Gulu, Kitgum i Pader.W 1988 Joseph Kony ogłosił się prorokiem wezwanym przez Ducha Świętego do podbicia Ugandy i zaprowadzenia prawa dziesięciu przykazań.

Acholiland is een onnauwkeurige term die naar het gebied verwijst dat door de etnische groep van de Acholi in noordelijk Oeganda wordt bewoond. Het is samengesteld uit de huidige Oegandese districten van Gulu, Kitgum, en Pader. Terwijl er ook Acholi ten noorden van de Soedanese grens wonen, wordt hun gebied niet tot Acholiland gerekend.
