Achilles

In Greek mythology, Achilles (also Akhilleus or Achilleus; Ancient Greek: ) was a hero of the Trojan War, the central character and greatest warrior of Homer's Iliad, which takes for its theme, not the War of Troy in its entirety, but specifically the Wrath of Achilles. Later legends (beginning with a poem by Statius in the first century AD) state that Achilles was invulnerable on all of his body except for his heel. These legends state that Achilles was killed in battle by an arrow to the heel, and so an Achilles' heel has come to mean a person's only weakness.Achilles is also famous for being the most 'handsome' of the heroes assembled at Troy, as well as the fleetest. Central to his myth is his relationship with Patroclus, characterized in different sources as deep friendship or love.

Achilleus (dt. Achill oder Achilles, lateinisch Achilles, altgriechisch-gelehrt Αχιλλεύς, heutiges Griechisch-volkssprachlich Αχιλλέας, Geburtsname eigentlich Ligyron) ist in der griechischen Mythologie der Sohn des Peleus (daher der Pelide) und der Meeresnymphe Thetis (siehe Stammbaum der griechischen Götter) stammend aus Pelion, Thessalien. Als Sohn eines menschlichen Vaters und einer göttlichen Mutter war er sterblich. Thetis versuchte aber, ihn zumindest unverwundbar zu machen, indem sie ihn in ein heiliges Feuer hielt. Peleus, nicht wissend, was Thetis vorhatte, dachte, sie wolle das Kind verbrennen, und zog es aus dem Feuer, doch weil Thetis Achill an der Ferse festhielt, berührte das Feuer diese nicht. Somit blieb Achill nur an der Ferse verwundbar (siehe Achillesferse).

Wychowanek mądrego centaura Chirona. Ojciec Neoptolemosa.W pewnych wersjach mitu o Achillesie Tetyda, starając się zapewnić mu nieśmiertelność, niedługo po narodzeniu syna zanurzyła go w Styksie i w ten sposób uodporniła całe jego ciało na ciosy. Jedynym słabym punktem pozostała pięta, za którą Tetyda trzymała niemowlę. W to miejsce ugodziła go strzała, wypuszczona z łuku przez Parysa, brata Hektora. Achilles zmarł zanim Troja została zdobyta.

Achille (in greco antico  / Achilleus, in latino Achilles, -is, in illirico Akilehti), soprannominato pié veloce o pié rapido, è un personaggio della mitologia greca, nonché uno dei principali eroi leggendari della guerra di Troia e il protagonista dell'Iliade. La leggenda di Achille è una delle più ricche della mitologia greca, e una delle più antiche. Oltre ad Omero, altri poeti, e le leggende popolari, s'impadronirono del personaggio, e s'ingegnarono a completare il racconto della sua vita, inventando degli episodi per supplire alle lacune dei poemi omerici. In questo modo si formò poco a poco un ciclo di Achille sovraccarico di incidenti e di leggende spesso divergenti, che ispirò i poeti tragici e i poeti epici di tutta l'antichità, fino all'epoca romana.
