Accessory nerve

In anatomy, the accessory nerve is a nerve that controls specific muscles of the neck. As a part of it is traditionally believed to originate in the brain, it is considered a cranial nerve. Based on its location relative to other such nerves, it is designated the eleventh of twelve cranial nerves, and is thus abbreviated CN XI. Although anatomists typically refer to the accessory nerve in singular, there are in reality two accessory nerves, one on each side of the body.

Le nervus accessorius est le onzième nerf crânien. Il est aussi appelé nerf spinal accessoire. Il naît dans la moelle épinière, remonte dans la cavité crânienne par le foramen magnum et ressort par le foramen jugulaire. Il innerve le muscle sterno-cléido-mastoïdien et le muscle trapèze.

Ma charakter ruchowy, a jego włókna mają początek w dwóch jądrach ruchowych: 1) jądrze czaszkowym nerwu dodatkowego (nucleus cranialis nervi accesorii); 2) jądrze rdzeniowym nerwu dodatkowego (nucleus spinalis nervi accessorii).
