Abyssal Plain

Abyssal plain are flat or very gently sloping areas of the deep ocean basin floor. They are among the Earth's flattest and smoothest regions and the least explored. Abyssal plains cover approximately 40% of the ocean floor and reach depths between 2,200 and 5,500 m (7,200 and 18,000 ft). They generally lay between the foot of a continental rise and a mid-oceanic ridge.

La plaine abyssale est une plaine sous-marine profonde (en général entre 5000 et 6000 mètres). Elle s'étend au-delà du plateau continental dont la profondeur est inférieure à 200 mètres. Elle est reliée à ce dernier par le talus continental, terrain dont la pente est accentuée. A l'opposé du plateau continental la plaine abyssale est souvent bornée par une dorsale océanique.

Las llanuras abisales son zonas llanas o de pendiente muy suave del fondo de la cuenca oceánica profunda. Están entre las zonas de la Tierra más llanas y suaves, y entre las menos exploradas. Las llanuras abisales suponen aproximadamente el 40% del fondo del océano y su profundidad oscila entre los 2.200 y los 5.500 m. Suelen quedar entre el pie del talud continental y una dorsal oceánica o una fosa.
